Fine RV Dining: Getting a Grill
RV dining is all about making smart and healthy choices, saving space, and taking advantage of the great outdoors to prepare your meals. While cooking over the campfire can be a great option, it’s not always reliable or consistent. The best outdoor cooking will still come from a grill. Getting a grill for your next camping trip can make for delicious new foods, but you’ll want to make sure that you get the right grill. Razorback Camper Sales has provided some tips for choosing the grill that works for you, or you can stop by our location in Hot Springs, Arkansas, for additional tips and a tour of available RVs. We proudly serve Little Rock, Texarkana, and Pine Bluff.
Choosing a Type of Grill
Start by picking a fuel source. How your grill heats up is going to greatly impact things like price and taste, so consider what you want, or rather, what you may not want.
Charcoal
Charcoal is, of course, the classic choice. Many grillers will tell you nothing beats the taste of meat cooked on a charcoal grill. It can take a little more time to cook, and you’ll need to bring charcoal with you, but for some, this is a small sacrifice to make for a bigger payoff.
Propane
Propane grills are some of the most popular options for RVers in particular. It heats up faster, reducing cooking time. In other words, you can spend more time outdoors and don’t have to head back to the camper early to get dinner started. They’re also more convenient to travel with, since propane tanks are easy to transport.
Electric
Electric grills are the most affordable option on our list. There’s no additional supplies, outside of having an outlet to hook up to, so it saves space and additional spending. For some people, they’re also easier to work with.
Choosing a Grill Size
Once you know what type of grill you want, you’ll want to think about size. While at home you might want something that makes cooking for the whole family easy, for your RV you’ll want to think about what you have space for. It needs to fit somewhere in one of your storage compartments, and be easy to move around. We recommend taking measurements of the space where you intend to keep your grill so you know the parameters you’re working with.
Choosing Grill Features and Accessories
Now you’ve got the grill! Mostly. Time to enhance the experience by getting the right accessories for your camper. Some of these come separately, and some will be additional perks, so consider which are right for you.
- Stainless steel or enamel finishes fight rust more efficiently than other materials.
- Grill covers protect the grill from the elements when it’s not in use.
- Fold-up tables provide easier, more stable eating surfaces for your family (especially kids).
- A grill stand allows you to set the grill anywhere, even on uneven surfaces.
- A grill tray catches items that might slide through the grate.
- A meat thermometer tells you when your meat is thoroughly cooked and safe to eat.
- A wire grill brush with brass bristles make for easy and efficient cleaning.
Now all that’s left is to find some new grilling recipes to try out and you’ll be in business! Try to vary up the food you use or even cook some fish you catch. Then enjoy your meals outside, next to the campfire, sharing stories and memories with family and friends.
